Most lists of dog friendly wedding venues in Steamboat Springs will tell you which venues allow dogs. This post tells you something more useful: what it is actually like to have your dog there.
As the founder of Plus the Pups, a bespoke wedding dog concierge service based in Colorado, I have worked weddings and spent time at each of the venues on this list. I have seen what works for dogs and what does not, including ceremony sites that require a contingency plan the moment a storm builds over the mountains, and lakefront locations that require a very honest conversation with couples who have bird dogs. And I know which venues have a team that will drive a scared dog to the tent entrance in a 4×4 when everything goes sideways.
That is the kind of information this post exists to give you.
Steamboat Springs is one of the most beautiful places in Colorado to get married, and it is one of the most dog friendly destinations in the state. If you are planning a wedding here and want your dog present for any or all of it, here are the five venues worth knowing about.

Flying Diamond Ranch
Flying Diamond Ranch is the venue I know best in Steamboat Springs, and it is the one I recommend most confidently for couples who want their dog woven into the full wedding weekend. We supported Shiloh, a rescue with anxiety, through a complete wedding weekend here in September 2024, and that experience taught me more about this venue than any number of site visits ever could.
The ranch sits about 15 minutes from downtown Steamboat Springs on 3,500 acres of private land. There are two ceremony sites: the Aspen Forest, surrounded by towering aspens that feel like something out of a dream, and the Mountain View site with open sky and expansive views of the surrounding peaks. A semi-permanent floored tent handles the reception, which means you have solid weather backup built into the day without sacrificing the outdoor feel.
For dogs, the wide open private property is a genuine advantage. There is room to walk, room to explore, room to decompress. An anxious dog can have space. A high-energy dog can burn off energy before the ceremony. The venue team, led by Tammy, is genuinely warm and collaborative. When Shiloh’s anxiety spiked on the wedding day due to an incoming storm and we had to adapt the entire plan in real time, Tammy personally drove us to the tent entrance in her 4×4. That is the kind of venue partnership that makes this work possible.
Plus the Pups Dog Logistics Note
Flying Diamond is a fully outdoor venue, which means mountain weather is always a variable. Colorado summer storms build fast and dogs feel them coming before humans do. If your dog has any weather sensitivity, build a contingency plan into the itinerary from the start and discuss it with your concierge in advance. The good news is that the venue team here is experienced and responsive when plans need to change. We have seen this firsthand.

Catamount Ranch and Club
Catamount Ranch and Club is one of the most visually stunning venues in the Steamboat area. A private 530-acre lake sits at the center of the property, and the lakefront ceremony site places you and your guests just a few feet from the water’s edge with mountain peaks rising on all sides. It is genuinely one of the most breathtaking ceremony settings I have worked at.
I supported a wedding here with three German Shorthaired Pointers, all working bird dogs, and I want to tell you exactly what happened: there were multiple ducks on the lake throughout the day. For any dog with a strong prey drive or a love of water, that lakefront ceremony site is a consideration worth discussing in advance. It is not a dealbreaker. It is just information your concierge needs to know about your dog before the day arrives.
Beyond the lakefront site, Catamount also offers the Heritage Ranch setting, which is set back from the water among wildflower meadows and rolling hills, and feels more contained for dogs who do better with less environmental stimulation. Access to the venue is easy, and the property overall has a polished, private club feel that works beautifully for more formal celebrations.
One important note: Catamount requires member sponsorship to book. If you do not have a connection to a current member, that is the first conversation to have.
Plus the Pups Dog Logistics Note
The lakefront ceremony site is gorgeous and our couples love it, but if your dog has any bird dog instincts or is obsessed with water, talk to us about it before you commit to that specific site. The Heritage Ranch setting is a beautiful alternative with a less stimulating environment for dogs who need it. Either way, access is easy and the property is well suited for dogs with the right preparation.

- Setting: Private club on a 530-acre lake, mountain valley

- Booking note: Requires sponsorship from a current club member
- Dogs: Permitted at outdoor spaces, confirm specifics with venue coordinator

Home Ranch
Home Ranch sits about 25 minutes north of Steamboat Springs in Clark, Colorado, tucked into the Elk River Valley in the shadow of the Zirkel Mountain range. It is one of the most spectacular private properties in the state, and the recent renovation and reopening as a full wedding and events venue means it is just becoming known as a wedding destination.
I visited the Home Ranch for a brand shoot with my own dog, and I can tell you that the experience of being on that land is unlike most venues in Colorado. Three thousand acres of private wilderness. Open fields that stretch in every direction. A renovated historic barn with a dance hall. An open-air pavilion with views of the continental divide. A campfire amphitheater for ceremonies. Multiple indoor and outdoor spaces spread across a property that genuinely feels like a world apart.
For dogs, the scale of the property is a significant advantage. There is space for an anxious dog to find quiet and for a high-energy dog to truly decompress. The property requires a full buyout for all events, which means your wedding is the only thing happening, and your dog is never navigating a crowd of strangers from another event.
What I can say from my time there is that it is the kind of place that was built for experiences that feel unhurried and completely private, which for dogs is almost always a good thing.
Plus the Pups Dog Logistics Note
The Home Ranch is a full property buyout, which means your wedding is the only event on site. That level of privacy is a genuine advantage for dogs who can be overwhelmed by unfamiliar crowds. The open fields I experienced during the brand shoot were calm and spacious in a way that immediately put my own dog at ease. We are actively building our relationship with this venue and are excited to support dogs here.

- Event spaces: Belltower Pavilion, historic barn with dance hall, campfire amphitheater, Great Lodge
- Capacity: Up to 250 guests
- Accommodations: Up to 35 guests on site in cabins, lodge rooms, and a three-bedroom home
- Booking: Full property buyout required, limited events per year
- Dogs: Open fields and private property make this well suited for dogs

La Joya Dulce
La Joya Dulce, which translates to “Sweet Jewel,” sits just nine paved miles from downtown Steamboat Springs in the Elk River Valley. It is the closest ranch wedding venue to Steamboat and one of the most beautiful in the region: aspen groves, rolling hills, mountain views, and a barn that has been thoughtfully transformed from its roots as part of the historic Triple Diamond Ranch.
The venue is owned and operated by Kathie, who is one of the warmest people in the Steamboat wedding world and who, I can tell you from personal experience, genuinely loves dogs. La Joya Dulce actually features a photo of a couple with their dog in the aspens right on their website, which tells you something about the culture of the place.
The outdoor spaces at La Joya Dulce are fully accessible for dogs: the ceremony sites, the meadows, the aspen grove, the open areas around the barn. The one consideration to note is that dogs are not permitted inside the barn space itself. For most weddings, this is a straightforward logistics conversation: the dog attends the outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour, and transitions out when the indoor reception begins. With a dedicated concierge managing that transition, it is completely seamless.
La Joya Dulce hosts only one event per week and a limited number of events per year, which means the property is yours and the experience is genuinely exclusive. For couples who want a classic Colorado ranch wedding close to Steamboat with a team that truly cares, this venue consistently delivers.
Plus the Pups dog logistics note
Dogs are welcome at all outdoor spaces at La Joya Dulce, which covers the ceremony and cocktail hour beautifully. The barn is indoors only, so the transition plan for when the dog leaves for the evening is something we build into the itinerary from the start. Kathie and her team are warm, collaborative, and clearly love animals. This is one of our favorite venues in the area to work with.

Steamboat Ski Area — Four Points Lodge
If your wedding vision involves a gondola ride to an on-mountain ceremony with your dog by your side, Four Points Lodge at Steamboat Ski Area is the venue to know. This is an unusual and genuinely spectacular option, and yes, dogs are explicitly permitted at outdoor ceremony locations on the mountain.
I supported a wedding at Four Points Lodge and I want to be clear about what that experience requires from a dog logistics standpoint: you load the gondola, and then take a shuttle to reach the lodge itself. Both are dog friendly. But this is absolutely a situation that requires a handler who is familiar with these logistics in advance and who has a dog that is comfortable with unusual modes of transportation and high-altitude environments.
For the right dog and the right couple, it is extraordinary. For a dog with significant anxiety or fear responses, the gondola and the elevation and the unfamiliar stimuli of a mountain top venue require very honest pre-wedding conversation about whether this is the right fit.
At the wedding we worked at Four Points Lodge, Lazlo and Luna were managed off-leash using e-collar communication, which allowed for more natural movement and less restrictive handling during the ceremony and photos. This is something we discuss on a dog-by-dog basis and never assume.
Plus the Pups dog logistics note
Four Points Lodge is one of the most unique venues we have worked at. The gondola and shuttle access, the elevation, and the on-mountain environment make this a situation where experience genuinely matters. If you are considering this venue and want to include your dog, please talk to us early. We have done this and know exactly what it requires from both a logistics and a dog-temperament standpoint.

- Setting: On-mountain lodge, gondola and shuttle access
- Season: Mid-June through mid-September
- Dogs: Permitted at outdoor ceremony locations on the mountain
- Access note: Gondola to mountain, then shuttle to lodge — handler must be familiar with these logistics
- Elevation: High alpine environment, factor into dog comfort planning

What to Know Before You Book a Dog Friendly Wedding Venue in Steamboat Springs
Every venue on this list allows dogs in some capacity. But dog friendly and dog ready are not the same thing. Here is what to think through before you book.
Confirm the specifics with the venue directly
Dog policies vary by venue and can change. Some venues permit dogs at outdoor ceremony spaces but not during the reception while other require dogs to leave at a specific time. Some have no restrictions at all. Others only allow them if a professional handler is on site. Always confirm in writing with your venue coordinator before you commit to bringing your dog.
Plan for mountain weather
Every venue on this list is in or near the mountains, and Colorado mountain weather can shift fast. Summer afternoons bring storms that build quickly, and dogs often feel the pressure change before anyone else does. Have a contingency plan for your dog before the day arrives. Know where they can go if the weather turns and who is responsible for making that call in real time.
Think about your dog’s specific temperament
A lakefront venue with ducks is a different proposition for a Labrador than for a Goldendoodle. An on-mountain venue accessed by gondola requires a different kind of dog than a flat outdoor ranch setting. The venue matters but your dog’s specific temperament matters more. The best wedding dog experiences start with an honest assessment of both. Should You Have Your Dog at Your Wedding? A Framework for Deciding — coming soon.
Book a dedicated concierge for a destination wedding weekend
If you are traveling to Steamboat Springs for your wedding, your dog is also navigating an unfamiliar environment, an unfamiliar hotel, and a full weekend of new experiences before the wedding day even begins. A dedicated wedding dog concierge manages all of that across the weekend, not just during the ceremony. For destination wedding weekends, the Wedding Weekend Experience from Plus the Pups covers everything from pick up to the morning-after handoff. Ways to Work With Plus the Pups.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dog Friendly Wedding Venues in Steamboat Springs
Flying Diamond Ranch, Catamount Ranch and Club, The Home Ranch, La Joya Dulce, and Four Points Lodge at Steamboat Ski Area are all dog friendly in different ways. Flying Diamond Ranch and La Joya Dulce are the most straightforwardly dog accessible. Catamount requires awareness of the lakefront environment for water-loving or bird dogs. The Home Ranch offers exceptional private acreage. Four Points Lodge is extraordinary for the right dog but requires specific logistics planning. All five are worth considering depending on your dog’s temperament and your wedding vision.
Yes, with the right planning. Colorado mountain weddings introduce specific considerations for dogs: altitude, mountain weather that shifts quickly, unfamiliar terrain, and often longer travel days. The most important things are confirming your venue’s specific dog policy, building a weather contingency plan, and ensuring your dog has a dedicated handler who knows the venue and knows your dog. For destination weddings especially, arriving a day early with your concierge makes an enormous difference in how settled your dog is on the wedding day itself.
Steamboat Springs is approximately 3 to 3.5 hours from Denver by car, making it one of the more accessible Colorado mountain destinations for a wedding weekend. The drive is manageable for most dogs. Alternatively, Yampa Valley Regional Airport serves Steamboat Springs with daily flights from Denver via Southwest and United, and is approximately 30 minutes from most Steamboat venues. For destination weddings, Plus the Pups can arrange pick up from Denver or coordinate directly from the airport depending on your travel plans.
We would say yes, especially for a full wedding weekend. A destination wedding means your dog is also navigating an unfamiliar environment for multiple days. A dedicated concierge manages the full weekend experience: the drive or travel to Steamboat, the hotel stay, the rehearsal, the welcome party, the wedding day, and the morning after. For destination weddings, Plus the Pups always arrives a day early to bond with your dog before the wedding day begins.
